Typing Test in Punjab: Guidelines and Instructions
The typing test for candidates in Punjab involves typing a Punjabi passage using
Unicode Compliant Raavi Font with the INSCRIPT keyboard.
Passages will include Gurmukhi alphabets, numbers (both Gurmukhi and English), and
punctuation marks. Candidates are required to type the text exactly as provided.
Typing Test Duration and Requirements
-
Each language test (Punjabi and English) will have a duration of
10 minutes.
-
A 5-minute interval will be given between the two tests.
-
Candidates must achieve a minimum gross typing speed of 30 words per minute
in both Punjabi and English with a minimum accuracy of 92% (maximum 8%
mistakes permissible).
Key Instructions for Typing
-
Pay special attention to spaces and punctuation marks. Errors such as
missing or extra spaces will be treated as mistakes.
-
For Punjabi typing, mistakes like omissions/additions of lagamatras, half characters, or
incorrect words will render the word invalid.
-
Certain irrelevant keys on the keyboard will remain non-functional during the test.
Typing Speed Instructions
A "word" is defined as five characters, including spaces and punctuation
marks. Passages for Punjabi and English typing will be displayed in chunks of 3
lines. Each chunk contains 32-34 words. Candidates must type all
10 chunks to qualify.
Navigation:
After typing 80% of the current chunk, candidates can press Enter or the
down arrow key to move to the next chunk. Navigation keys like
Up Arrow, PgUp, and PgDn can also be used.
Special Punjabi Typing Rules
-
Punjabi vowels, consonants, matras, bindi, tippi, and half characters are considered as
single characters.
-
Example:
- Word "ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ" has 4 characters.
- Word "ਸਿੱਖਿਆ" has 3 characters.
-
Correct input for vowels must be typed as single keys:
- Correct: Use Shift + G for "ਔ".
- Incorrect: Typing "ਕ" + "ੌ" as a combination.
Error Calculations
- Full Mistakes:
- Omission of any word.
- Substitution with any incorrect word.
- Addition of extra or incorrect words.
- Half Mistakes:
- Spacing errors (missing or extra spaces).
